A little about me...
I design and create all manner of ceramic wares using Photoshop, Illustrator, Deskartes and PlateScribe. I take my knowledge of hand making processes and apply them to the CAD design process, ultimately giving me a better understanding of the final outcome.
My own work emulates my passion for traditional craft skills that ought not to be forgotten and bringing them up to date. It captures the theme of tradition and nostalgia usually tying in contemporary imagery. The methods I use are a mixtures of throwing on the potter’s wheel, slip casting and combining prints with glazes to create aesthetically pleasing, contemporary designs. I work in both earthenware and bone china and I have largely used print as a form of decoration because it gives the pristine cut and graphic aesthetic. Always with a sense of humour, I focus on form and pattern and everything with the Kidgell Ceramics stamp on is made in Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire.
My work ethic is one of having a close relationship and understanding of traditional methods. I am ardent that traditional values and techniques are not forgotten but taken as a starting point in this ever evolving creative world.
